Test Site No. 12: The End
As part of a site-specific exhibition in the mountain communities outside Los Angeles, we presented a series of four roadside signs in the style of the historic “Burma Shave” or “Wall Drug” sequential billboards. The signs spelled out the phrase “The End Must End” displayed amidst imagery of a burning landscape, continuing a series of Semi-Tropic Spiritualist works where we take on the role of anti-apocalyptic preachers. Conceptually, the work deals with the increased fire risk on the mountain (and in Los Angeles) induced by climate change, as well as the intensification of apocalyptic cultural rhetoric. The signage was accompanied by a take-away pamphlet.
This project was presented near the Strawberry Peak Fire Lookout Station in Twin Peaks, CA as part of the Rim of the World Road Concert.
