I presented the exhibition Entr'acte, curated by Samuel W. Kho, at All Things Project, NYC, in the spring of 2010.
The word “entr’acte” is a theatrical term, literally translated “between-act.” The idea of between-ness – whether that be interpreted as a moment of waiting, a lapse in action, a faltering of certainty, a sideways glance, or a liminal space – serves as a uniting concept for the all the works I presented in the exhibition. Alongside this notion of the in-between, my work also takes cues from theatrical presentations, imagining the performance of sideshow magician. This elusive figure moves between fixed positions, inhabiting the space between the mundane and the spectacular, the visible and the invisible, the suspension of disbelief and the outright trick.
Included in the exhibition are 3 series of works: Mirror/Keyhole (2008-10), Untitled/Unknown (2009-10), and Sideshows (2010), along with elements of site-specific installation.
